When I was young I had no interest on being a musician but I grew up listening to my father's musical influences like Metallica, Guns n roses, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, Deep Purple, Skid Row. Then when I reached 5th grade, my group of friends would sing songs from Green Day while playing guitar a lot at school. One day, I asked one of my friends to teach me how to play guitar. So he taught me some power chords that Green Day usually use. When we reached grade 6, we performed on our school's farewell program. We played 21 Guns and another song I can't remember anymore. Years after, I heard a song that I thought had such a cool instrumental part, Fade to black by Metallica. I started watching their concert clips, you might say I was a bit addicted.
When I hit high school I wanted to start a band because there was a Battle of the Bands on our foundation day. Unfortunately I couldn't find any drummer and bassist at that time so I didn't join the competition. A year after that i tried again because there was an upcoming party at school. I knew someone who also knows how to play guitar so I only needed a vocalist, drummer and a bassist. A friend of mine suggested that he knew someone from another class that can sing. So then my friend introduced me to Jose, he turned out to be the guy from the other class that speaks fluent English. At this point I had gathered all the members to start practicing the songs. I learned the drums and bass parts so I could teach it to my other members. We performed Enter Sandman by Metallica and 21 guns by Greenday. We performed along with other bands from our school and the band of Jose's brother, Farewell Fair Weather.
A few years later, when we had an upcoming farewell program in our high school, the band I formed with Jose didn't have a bassist. There was a time when we had rehearsals in Jose's house and I just so happen to see his band Area Five practicing "For you" when I arrived. So Jose suggested that we could ask Benjo to perform with us in our school but Benjo was from LSGH and unfortunately our school didn't allow any outsiders to perform with us so we just jammed together. I was impressed with Benjo's skills because I never had a bassist in my previous bands quite like him. . Months later, Jose asked me if i can join his band Area Five since they're looking for a guitarist. I went to Benjo to learn the song and then we tried to play it as a band. Funnily enough after one try, they said I was in! I was happy because it was the first band I became a part of that didn't have to change members every five seconds. I felt at ease because I didn't need to learn drums and bass parts anymore. We performed in competitions some times but in 2018 we recorded a song to be released on all music streaming platforms, and on Feb 2019 we released our first single called Another Forever.
We just kept playing everywhere we could. Some time in 2020 Jose saw Wishcovery's audition info located in Eton Centris but we couldn't go cause of our busy schedule. So he sent the application online hoping that we could get in. A few days to a week later, we received a text from Wish that we got in the Wishcovery competition. Luckily, out of hundreds of bands that auditioned on the event (there were like 700 applications haha) we got a chance to perform in the Wish bus. My main influences are Metallica, Dream Theater, Guthrie Govan, Avenged Sevenfold and Guns n Roses and I hope to expand that and turn Area Five into a music influence for others as well one day.
